Job Vacancy: Teacher Aide – ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Location: Iqra School Two Positions: Teacher Aide – ESOL and Maths Support Contract Type: Permanent, starting in 2026 Hours: 28-30 hours per week Eligibility: Must have the right to work in New Zealand About Us:Iqra School is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment. We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Teacher Aide to provide English language support to ESOL students and math support for a permanent position in 2026. This role is essential in helping students who are English language learners develop confidence and proficiency in English, enabling them to fully participate in the school community, as well as maths students gain knowledge and skills.
Role Overview: As the Teacher Aide of ESOL and Maths, you will work closely with classroom teachers to support students who are English language learners and math students. Your primary focus will be on assisting students with developing English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You will work with individuals and small groups to help them build vocabulary, understand classroom materials, and improve overall language fluency. You also will support maths students gain knowledge and skills incorporating Islamic values into your teaching practices and actively participate in professional development opportunities related to Islamic values is expected. Job Responsibilities: In this role, you will: • Provide targeted English language support to ESOL students, and math support to children in need as guided by the classroom teacher. • Assist students with understanding and completing classroom assignments, focusing on language comprehension and expression, we well as math knowledge and skills. • Work one-on-one or with small groups to improve literacy skills, vocabulary, pronunciation, and confidence in speaking English. • Encourage students’ progress by offering constructive feedback and maintaining a supportive, positive learning environment. • Collaborate with teachers to implement language support strategies and resources that are culturally sensitive and responsive. • Monitor and record students’ language progress, helping to adapt strategies as necessary to meet their evolving needs. Skills and Requirements: • Experience: Previous experience as a Teacher Aide, ESOL support, Maths support or similar role in an educational setting is preferred. • ESOL and Maths Skills: Strong understanding of English language learning needs, including techniques to support vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills and experience supporting maths students. • Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in simplifying language for learners. • Adaptability: Ability to modify instructional methods to meet individual language needs and skill levels. • Patience and Empathy: Demonstrates patience, empathy, and encouragement, creating a positive environment for language acquisition. • Professionalism: Committed to upholding Iqra School’s values and promoting an inclusive, respectful atmosphere.
