| Experience Details | CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES ● Deep passion and commitment to advancing social justice in Muslim communities as well as other criminalized and surveilled communities. Experience working with the Muslim community and others impacted by Islamophobia is preferred. ● Demonstrated relevant experience in popular education, public narrative, communications, research, and/or organizing. ● Experience with working across teams, organizations and communities to effectively advance campaigns. ● Enthusiasm for MJL’s mission, vision, and values. 3 Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ● Deep understanding of root causes of social inequality. Preferred experience includes popular/political educators, communicators, or narrative change agents with specific understanding of/subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: Islamophobia, counterterrorism & national security, policing, surveillance, or the War on Terror. ● Minimum of four years of experience in education, communications, research, or organizing. ● Ability to communicate in a variety of formats and for different audiences (e.g. advocacy materials and reports, grant writing, workshops for community members). ● Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking experience, with the ability to present complex issues clearly and accessibly. ● Ability to work in collaboration with staff, partners, and grassroots leaders to build narratives and messaging that is clear, concise, and accessible. ● Strong project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks when managing multiple projects. ● Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for communication, data management, and organizing (e.g. social media, Mailchimp, Canva, and Google Suite). Willingness to learn new applications and follow best practices in data security. ● Experience with creating and maintaining websites, especially with Wordpress. ● Understanding of design with the ability to create graphics, layout reports, and develop other materials. ● Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. ● Commitment to self-reflection and accountability in a team setting with multi-directional feedback. |
