Position Title: Assistant Principal – Middle & High School
Job Summary
The Assistant Principal provides instructional leadership and operational support to ensure
a safe, inclusive, and high-achieving school environment for middle and high school
students. This role focuses on academic excellence, teacher coaching, positive school
culture, and effective student discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
• Assist with curriculum alignment to state standards and college/career readiness
pathways.
• Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to improve teaching
practices.
• Support professional development for teachers, focusing on differentiated
instruction and adolescent learning needs.
• Analyze student data (grades, standardized tests, attendance) to identify trends and
interventions.
• Facilitate grade-level and department meetings focus on teaching and learning.
School Climate & Student Engagement
• Promote programs that enhance student engagement, leadership, and social-
emotional learning.
• Support extracurricular activities, athletics, and clubs to encourage student
involvement.
• Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that prepares students for post-
secondary success.
Student Discipline & Behavior Management
• Implement and monitor the school’s discipline policies, emphasizing restorative and
proactive practices.
• Investigate student behavioral incidents.
• Address behavioral issues promptly and communicate effectively with parents and
staff.
• Work with counselors to support students with behavioral or social-emotional
needs.
• Assist with master scheduling, testing coordination, and supervision of school
events.
• Ensure campus safety, emergency preparedness, and adherence to district policies.
• Supervise classified staff, substitute teachers, and other assigned personnel.
• Act as principal in their absence.
• Maintain accurate records (attendance, incident reports, etc.) and generate
necessary reports.
Manage inventory and ordering instructional supplies, material and equipment.
Leadership & Community Engagement
• Build strong relationships with parents, community members, and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with leadership teams to meet school improvement goals.
• Support recruitment, orientation, and retention of quality staff.
Qualifications
• Education: Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
• Certification: Type 75 Certification in state of Illinois.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience (secondary level preferred).
• Prior leadership or administrative experience strongly preferred.
• Deep understanding of adolescent development and secondary curriculum.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Data-driven decision-making abilities.
• Skilled in conflict resolution and restorative practices.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
Work Environment
This position requires regular visibility in classrooms, hallways, and school events. Evening
and weekend availability may be required for athletics, performances, and community
