Main Purpose of the Role

The Co-head will work collaboratively to lead and manage Marathon Science School, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, behaviour and safeguarding. The successful candidate will focus on driving continuous school improvement, preparing for Ofsted inspections, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership in partnership with the other Co-head to deliver the school’s vision, ethos, and values
  • Lead on school self-evaluation and development planning, specifically in preparation for Ofsted inspection
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including safeguarding and health & safety
  • Support and develop members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and wider staff, promoting a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement
  • Foster excellent standards of behaviour and learning in small classes, maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Work with governors, parents, and the wider community to promote the school and its achievements
  • Oversee the effective use of resources to provide the best possible education for all pupils

Person Specification

Qualifications and training
  • Qualified teacher status (QTS)
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development relevant to a senior leadership role
Experience
  • Substantial experience in a senior leadership role within a school (minimum 3 years SLT experience preferred)
  • Proven track record of preparing for and participating in Ofsted inspections
  • Experience in ensuring compliance with education policies and statutory requirements
  • Experience in leading and managing staff teams effectively
Skills and knowledge
  • In-depth understanding of Ofsted frameworks, school inspection processes, and educational compliance
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and analytical skills
  • Ability to inspire, challenge, and motivate pupils and staff
  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies, especially in small class settings

  • High expectations for all pupils and a commitment to their achievement and well-being
  • Ability to work collaboratively and share leadership responsibilities effectively
