Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.  Established in 1984, with an active presence in over 45 countries, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disasters. IRW’s Global Family Development Division is recruiting for the position of Deputy Director of Global Family Development, based out of its offices in Birmingham, UK. The organisation is currently operating to a hybrid working model. The role is being advertised as only open to existing employees of Islamic Relief, in the UK. The Role: The Deputy Director - Member Development is a senior leader with the division and at multiple times throughout the year, manages the division. The Deputy Director - Member Development is responsible for developing and executing an effective expansion strategy for the growth of the Islamic Relief Family. The role holder is responsible for the entire process of establishing a new office, from feasibility, inception, recruitment of Trustees and senior management team, through to sustainability development and handover to the established Board of Trustees. Additionally, the role holder is responsible to manage the exploration of fundraising opportunities from areas around the world without an official Islamic Relief presence, building relationships with strategic partners and stakeholders. The role holder is responsible to provide strategic support to the Director in developing and implementing the vision and strategy of the division as well as management support for various departments where needs are determined. The successful candidate must have:
  • A Master’s level qualification in a relevant subject
  • Experience of strategic planning and implementation against that plan
  • Experience of being a spokesperson for an organisation across multiple media
  • Demonstrable experience of building and maintaining relationships with people of influence and institutions
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a large, diverse team
  • Demonstrable experience of budget-planning and monitoring
  • Experience of working within the humanitarian and development sector
  • Experience of building high performing teams
  • Experience of developing branding and fundraising initiatives
  • Experience of working with legal and finance sector specialists
  • Experience of working with, setting up new boards in new countries and supporting IRW and local Trustee boards
  • Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills, particularly at an inter- personal level
  • Results focused – ability to deliver objectives and targets with a positive drive to achieve results
  • Ability to develop strategy and see-through implementation
  • Ability to adapt to fast-changing environment
  • Ability to build and manage teams that work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines and balance competing priorities
  • Ability to manage a team effectively to meet ambitious targets
  • Ability to manage relationships with influential external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences and across different mediums
  • Understanding of how to build capability of teams to capitalise on new opportunities
  • Sound understanding of the audiences that Islamic Relief wants to communicate with
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise the team’s work
  • Knowledge on to international market analysis and segmentation
  • Strong diplomatic and negotiating skills, with experience of guiding and influencing Board members and senior leaders in sister organisations to collaborate together more effectively.
