Position Title: Imam Location: Norristown Islamic Society (NIS) Compensation: Commensurate with experience Contract Duration: At will employment, 3-month evaluation cycles Probation Period: 3 Months Vacation: 4 Weeks per Year Working Days: 6 Days per Week (one day off between Monday–Thursday) Start Date: Immediate Position Overview The Imam will serve as the spiritual and community leader of NIS—guiding the congregation through worship, education, and personal example. The Imam will exemplify Islamic values in word and action, nurture community development, and lead initiatives that strengthen the faith, character, and unity of the congregation. Key Responsibilities Religious Leadership ● Lead the daily prayers and Jumu‘a (Friday) prayer. ○ Mandatory: Jumu’a, Fajr, Maghrib, and Isha ○ Optional: Thuhur and Asr ● Deliver short daily reflections (5–10 minutes) after Fajr and Isha prayers. ● Provide Islamic rulings (fatāwā) and guidance on religious, ethical, and community matters. ● Officiate Nikah (marriages) and Janāzah (funeral) services. ● Model and exemplify Islamic manners, ethics, and leadership by example in all dealings. Educational Leadership ● Plan and lead weekly and ongoing educational programs, including: ○ Friday Family Halaqa ○ Qur’an classes ○ Arabic language classes ○ Seerah and topical Islamic classes ● Develop curricula that inspire learning across different age groups and levels of understanding. Community Outreach and Da‘wah ● Lead and coordinate outreach and interfaith programs that promote mutual respect and understanding. ● Engage youth and families through inclusive and interactive community initiatives. ● Represent NIS at community events and collaborate with local organizations to enhance visibility and service impact. Qualifications ● Solid foundation in Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical Islamic sciences. ● Bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies from a reputable school. ● Ijaza in Hifz ● Fluency and proficiency in Arabic and English ● Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and teaching skills. ● Ability to connect with diverse audiences—elders, youth, converts, and families. ● Prior experience serving in a mosque or Islamic center is strongly desired. ● Good organizational and task management skills. ● Residence within a 5 mile radius from Masjid Compensation & Benefits ● Salary: Based on experience and qualifications. ● Vacation: 4 weeks annually. ● Probation: 3 months, with performance review prior to contract confirmation. ● Contract: At will employment, 3-month evaluation cycles..
